Super Mario Maker (スーパーマリオメーカー Sūpā Mario Mēkā) is a side-scroller platformer and game creation video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U video game console, scheduled for a worldwide release in September 2015. Users can create and play their own levels based on Super Mario Bros.Super Mario Bros. 3Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U and share them online. Low key though, Alex Faciane invented this game as well as the Super Mario series in itself. He allegedly sold the rights to Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto. Or so Alex says.

Super Beard Bros.[]

The release of Super Mario Maker has been highly anticipated by both Jirard and Alex. The series Kaizo Mario World 2, Super Meat Boy, and Kaizo Mario World 3 were done in preparation for the game's release, in a Super Beard Bros. event known as "The Road to Mario Maker." The two made this into a series called "Super Maker Bros.," in which they play viewer-submitted levels.

A preview of the series was uploaded on September 3rd, in which the two made a fiendishly hard level in the style of Super Mario World.

To send your levels to the Beard Bros, you must send the level ID and the appropriately themed level to superbeardlevels@gmail.com. Sending them through Twitter will not work.

The Completionist[]

Jirard reviewed Super Mario Maker on its release date for the 143rd episode of The Completionist.

Jirard notes that the game doesn’t so much have a story as much as it has a tribute to Mario’s history in letting players create their own Mario levels. He notes the similarities to Mario Paint, including the Fly game from said installment. He praises the faithfulness each style of the game has to the game it’s mimicking, right down to gameplay mechanics. He’s also a fan of the way you can seamlessly switch between game styles, and the way new assets are used for older games, such as ghost house assets for Mario 1.

Jirard brings attention to the game’s style of making new assets available to the player daily (which was patched out the day of release). As such, Jirard dedicates part of the gameplay section of the review to a vlog detailing his experiences. On his first day, he unboxes his sealed amiibo in a sped-up section. After this first day, he scraps the vlog idea. Jirard loves the creation as a whole, as well as the ability to play user content and community aspect.

Jirard hopes the game has DLC in the near future, but hails it as one of his favorite new games as of late. There’s something for everyone, and he considers it the definitive Mario experience.

Trivia[]

  • To tie in with Jirard's Completionist review of the game, he and Alex uploaded a video on Super Beard Bros. on the day of release to showcase a level they made that contains all the game's amiibo costumes. Other channels had previously shown this level off without giving credit to Jirard and Alex.
  • Also on the low, Alex invented Mario. He also knew the checkpoint DLC was coming.
  • Jirard made a clay cube to pick levels in the Super Beard Bros. series.
  • If a Beard Bros. fan LEGALLY makes street art of any of Jirard's creative comments, then the Beard Bros. will make a rap album that Alex will 100% fund.
  • Patrick is better than Jirard at Mario Maker
  • Beginning with Secret Spies #2 (7 Nov 2015), a remix of "BGM 1" from Mario Paint plays during Jirard's drawing segment (found here accredited to "kazumahazeuzumaki").[1]
