|Completionist Rating||Play It!|
Shadow of the Colossus is a an action-adventure game released on the PlayStation 2, later re-released for the PlayStation 3.
The Completionist Edit
Jirard gives small praise to the story for being simplistic, but finds weakness with the protagonist having no relatable traits. However, he notes that the presentation is remarkable for a PlayStation 2 game, and the size of the colossi convey a marvelous sense of adventure. Though he likes the music, he doesn't think it always fits the situation.
As a minor gripe, he finds the initial control input on the controller a bit awkward, especially with Triangle as jump (he would normally expect X to jump in a PlayStation game). He's also not a fan of how slow it takes to build up health and endurance, especially with hard-to-find collectibles.
The controls are where the game starts to dip off for Jirard, especially with the colossi impeding progress when they shake and prevent the character from climbing. He also finds the horse awkward to control.
He finds the system of getting better equipment after finishing the game and time attack ridiculous, thinking the game should've given them as the game progresses.
- Jon Jafari, aka JonTron, makes a cameo appearance in this episode. This is the first review to have a guest.
- Jon's "Completionist Name" "Pizza-pletionist" is actually a misunderstanding of "Pitz-pletionist."
- Unlike other blind Completionist reviews, a lot of Jirard's commentary of the game is spoken as though he's experiencing the game for the first time, rather than giving post-play thoughts.
- This is the first time a Play It! rating has been given.
