The game was followed by a sequel,Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return. The colorful imaginative atmosphere and innovative gameplay has continued to keep it nostalgically popular with gamers. The series is the brainchild of Tokuro Fujiwara. It was also one of the first PlayStation games to take advantage of the DualShock feature.

The intro song to the European version, No Sweat!, was performed by the CBBC band, North & South, whereas the North American version is an instrumental of Paradiseby Tokyo Q Channel.

The game has been re-released on thePlayStation Network as a PSone Classic.

The Completionist[]

Jirard reviewed Tomba! blind for the 123rd episode of The Completionist. He's excited to experience the game, as it incorporates both RPG elements and platformer elements, two genres he focused on when playing the PlayStation as a kid.

Jirard finds Tomba's motive to hunt down his attackers from the opening cutscene a little weird. He also questions the motives of the pig monsters who steal Tomba's bracelet, who apparently need it to take over the world. He finds this representative of games at the time, as they tried to be weirder than Super Mario 64.

Jirard finds the graphics and presentation to be a mixed bag. He finds most of the character models to look great for the time, except for Tomba's. Though he finds the mixture of 2D and 3D aspects of platforming to be creative and fun, and finds the music fitting, though is bothered by one track that he fails to recognize that Caddicarus uses in most of his videos. Caddicarus makes a cameo to call Jirard out on this.

Jirard finds the difficulty curve to be too much for him, getting very aggravating later on. He also finds the sidequests to be tedious. He also finds out that some of the sidequests are bugged and hard to complete. The rewards for the sidequests also disappoint Jirard. As for the RPG elements, he finds the rewards for leveling up are fun, but are not worth the grinding. The lack of a completion bonus upsets Jirard. The end boss is also underwhelming.

Overall, Jirard found the game both frustrating and fun, but finds the game's negatives outweigh its positives for him.

Xander Mobus voices Jirard's "Plook At It!" rating.
