Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II is an action-adventure platform video game developed and published by LucasArts. It is the second installment of theThe Force Unleashedmultimedia project, and the sequel to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2008). The game was released in the United States on October 26, 2010, and throughout Europe on October 29 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii consoles, as well as the Nintendo DS and iOS portable devices.

Players control a clone ofStarkiller, who himself was a secret apprentice to Darth Vader in The Force Unleashed. The clone embarks on a quest to find his identity and find Starkiller's love interest, Juno Eclipse. Production for The Force Unleashed II transpired over an approximate period of nine months; while it possesses some similarities to the previous game, producers modified several aspects such as the sound effects and gameplay. Sam Witwer again provides the voice and likeness for Starkiller, and several cast members return to voice and provide likeness to their respective roles.

The Force Unleashed II produced varying responses from critics, who despite adulating the sound design and aesthetics, were concerned with several gameplay elements and an underwhelming storyline. Aggregate scores range from the 40–70% range at websites GameRankings andMetacritic. During the first few weeks after its release it placed fifth or higher in sales for several regions.

The Completionist[]

Jirard reviewed this game for the 128th episode of The Completionist. He had previously done the first game in Season 2.

Jirard is immediately interested in the idea of playing as a clone of Starkiller from the first game. Though he finds the plot to be thin. As for presentation, he cites some major improvements, but considers the enemies and level design to be too "safe," due to the lack of Jedi enemies and linearity. Though he is happy that the voice cast from the first game returns. The sound was the most improved element of presentation for Jirard, though he's disappointed with the limited number of new musical scores.

Jirard heavily praises the dual-weilding light sabers combat, but is very disappointed by the game's low difficulty and lack of a growth system. He's also critical of the game feeling like "DLC depression," due to its short length, and withholding of some levels as pre-order bonuses. He feels like the game could've easily been DLC for the original game.

Jirard is happy with some of the smaller things unlocked from completing the game, but is dissatisfied with the only DLC level. Though one challenge gave him a lot of stress when trying to get all the trophies. Overall, Jirard feels like the game is a huge letdown, but can still find some good in it.

Trivia[]

  • Though he primarily covers the PS3 version of the game, he briefly talks about the Wii version, and its extras that bridge some gaps in plot.
