"Missiles for kids. Because we love explosions."
- Greg

Diddy Kong Racing is a 1997 kart racing video game for the Nintendo 64 developed by Rareware. 800,000 copies were ordered in the two weeks before Christmas 1997, making it the fastest selling video game at the time, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It was the first game to spin off from the Donkey Kong Country series and stands as the Nintendo 64's sixth best-selling game.

A racing game like Mario Kart 64Diddy Kong Racing also has a distinctive adventure mode. Some of the playable characters would later appear in their own franchise titles. The game was partially intended to introduce these future franchise characters so that gamers would recognise them when these games were released. InDiddy Kong Racing, a player can choose to drive a car, hovercraft, or aeroplane, though a certain level may require that the player picks one of these.

An enhanced remake for the Nintendo DS titled Diddy Kong Racing DS was released on 5 February 2007.

The Completionist Edit

Jirard reviewed Diddy Kong Racing for the thirty-ninth episode of The Completionist. The video starts with Jirard ranting over the completion bonus for Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow: a certificate. Greg is able to calm him by letting him know that he's live on Twitch however, which is how much of the episode was recorded. Completionist artist Carlos Padilla makes a cameo appearance during this opening bit.

Jirard praises the presentation as well as the overworld and different vehicles available to the player, something most other kart racers don't offer. He also praises the power-up system, which can stack when the player collects multiple balloons. He also makes mention of the boss fights and collectables, as well as other objectives that make the player race on courses multiple times. He finds the time trials overly frustrating, however, especially since they force the player to beat the time for each course twice. Overall, he doesn't find completing the game worth it due to difficulty and disappointing payoff.
