A 3D remake of the game, titled Cave Story 3D, was developed by Nicalis and published by NIS America for the Nintendo 3DS in November 2011.

The Completionist Edit

Jirard reviewed the Wii version Cave Story for the sixty-fifth episode of The Completionist, along with special guest Josh of Indie Statik.

Josh praises the story as a perfect hero's title that is best experienced by playing the game for one's self. Jirard praises the polished pixel art of Cave Story, giving him a creative retro feeling. Josh also gives some kudos to the level design and music.

Josh considers the dual platforming and shooting gameplay addictive and unique, and notes how the player feels more powerful as the game goes on. Greg even gives the boss battles some kudos. While Jirard finds the game to be a lot of fun, Jirard finds that the harder modes to be too overwhelming, and not worth it.
