Bubble Bobble (バブルボブル Baburu Boburu) is an arcade game by Taito, first released in 1986 and later ported to numerous home computers and game consoles. The game, starring the twin Bubble Dragons Bub (Bubblun) (バブルン Baburun?) and Bob (Bobblun) (ボブルン Boburun?), is an action-platform game in which players travel through one hundred different stages, blowing and bursting bubbles, dodging enemies and collecting a variety of items. The game became very popular and led to a long series of sequels and spin-offs. The main goal of the game is to rescue Bub and Bob's girlfriends from Robots, among other enemies. It is an early example of a game with multiple endings, which depend on the player's performance and discovery of secrets.
Jirard recommends playing the game with a friend, as it's more fun that way. Greg begs to play with him, until Jirard specifies that they have to be good at games. Jirard instead plays with Gung-Ho Al.
Jirard finds the game very hard, and a quarter-muncher in the arcades. That's why he recommends the NES version. The NES version in particular pleases him with its presentation. He also loves the song that plays throughout the game, despite its repetition. He also loves the gameplay despite being difficult to get used to. Though he does wish the game had more bosses. The one boss in the game is difficult for Jirard, and doesn't give the true ending unless the player gets the crystal ball in Level 99.
Overall, Jirard does not find the game worth completing at all, as it unlocks numerous levels after finishing the game, and only unlocks a sound test. After he's done, the music drives Jirard to the point of insanity.
In this episode, Jirard had asked the fans to sing the song of Bubble Bobble with him, and had it showed in the episode.
